Reviews for Il Grottino a Testaccio
Review highlights
Based on 2,204 reviewsIl Grottino a Testaccio is widely praised for its authentic Roman-style pizza featuring a notably thin, almost flatbread-like crust that appeals to both locals and visitors seeking traditional flavors. The restaurant offers a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere with a spacious cellar area and friendly service, although limited English proficiency among staff and the absence of an English menu may challenge some tourists. Customers appreciate the reasonable pricing, fresh ingredients, and efficient turnover despite the lack of reservations and busy peak hours. Specialty dishes like carbonara and house tiramisu also receive positive mentions, while the local Lazio wines add to the overall experience. This spot is considered a genuine, budget-friendly choice for those looking to enjoy classic Roman cuisine in a relaxed setting.
Affordable option in the area, we were looking for a budget friendly that’s more of a local spot in the area when we visited and I would say that this restaurant checks all of those boxes. My trip in Italy made me fall in love with carbonara and their carbonara is top notch. We also got a sausage pizza with mushrooms and it does not disappoint either.I would highly recommend coming to this place.
Delicious, and well worth the wait! The specialty is pizza, and they definitely have their own style of dough - almost flatbread. Staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy (especially in the cellar), the house wine is great (from Lazio, of course).
I learned about this place thanks to the YouTube channel Cocina con Ruben, so I had to try it. I loved it. Their pizzas have a paper-thin crust and are deliciously made right in front of you. Their tiramisu is wonderful. This place is very authentic and may not cater to everyone. I don't think they have a menu in English and their waiters' English is very limited. Don't arrive there after 7.30, or there will be a long line. It's not at all touristy and that's part of the experience.
Original roman pizza with a very thin dough in a simple, local place. Fair prices, good quality, fast service. No reservations- Expect waiting lines after 8 pm but they move fast due to many tables inside (lower level is quite spacious). 2 pizzas, green salad, tomato bruschetta, water and ½ liter red wine around 32 Euro. Be aware that the pizza provola e speck has an intense smoky taste.
Best pizza I’ve had in a long time! Perfect crust, fresh ingredients, and great service. Totally worth it.
Superb.. It's full of locals so... That's said a pot of the place.. Good prices.. Quality of food it's very good. THE pizza it's the main thing here.
